Astronomy Picture of the Day quietly publishes a new and interesting picture every single day. It's one of my favorite daily browsing sites, partly because there's always an interesting and/or delightful surprise awaiting me. Like today's, at right (click on the picture for a larger view).
Basically, APOD says that this picture is of an elliptical galaxy with "dust lanes" that are the detritus of one or more collisions with spiral galaxies. And basically quite beautiful.
